Get to know Jesus’ life through the Gospels

By ·

The Gospels tell Jesus’ story from different perspectives. Five stages can help you find your bearings: origins, public ministry, encounters, suffering and resurrection.

Birth and origins

Matthew 1–2 and Luke 1–2 describe Jesus’ origins and birth with different emphases. Mark begins with John the Baptist and Jesus’ public appearance. Do not treat the four Gospels as identical biographies. Read one account on its own first and notice what that narrator highlights.

Public ministry and following Jesus

Mark 1 introduces Jesus’ baptism, proclamation and the calling of his first disciples. These stories raise questions about who Jesus is and what following him means. Write down one observation about his actions and one question to carry into your next reading.

Encounters and parables

Luke 19:1–10 tells of Zacchaeus. Luke 10:25–37 contains the parable of the Good Samaritan. An encounter narrates an event; a parable is an illustrative story that invites reflection. Distinguishing their forms helps you avoid reducing different texts to interchangeable moral slogans.

Suffering and resurrection

Mark 14–16 follows Jesus’ suffering and death and the news of the empty tomb. These events are central to Christian faith and can raise difficult questions or strong feelings. Read connected passages and take your time. A summary can help you navigate, but cannot replace the text or thoughtful discussion.

Turn an overview into small steps

Choose one stage and read a short passage. Retell it in your own words, place it in the wider story and note one open question. Lumefide’s separate Life of Jesus path contains 50 sequential lessons. Free access starts with three hearts: a wrong answer uses one, and one regenerates every seven days. Plus gives unlimited hearts. This is a learning system, not a measure of your closeness to Jesus.
