What is Christian prayer?
Christians turn towards God in prayer through gratitude, requests, lament and silence. Jesus teaches a shared pattern in the Lord’s Prayer, which you can read in Matthew 6:9–13. The preceding verses warn against praying to impress others or relying on many words. A brief sentence is not a lesser kind of prayer.
A short practice to try
Set your phone down and pause. Name something you are thankful for. Describe what troubles you without trying to make it sound better. Ask for help for yourself or another person. Stay quiet for a moment and finish deliberately. You do not need to produce a particular feeling. If you cannot find your own words, read the Lord’s Prayer in a Bible edition.
An example in everyday words
God, thank you for the person who made time for me today. I am worried about tomorrow’s conversation. Help me listen carefully and speak honestly. Be with people who feel alone. Amen. We wrote this example; it is not a Bible quotation or a required formula. Change it to reflect your situation.
When words or concentration are difficult
Your attention may wander. Return to the next sentence without condemning yourself. Writing down one thought can help. Questions and lament also belong to biblical prayer, including the Psalms. Prayer does not promise an immediate solution and is not a substitute for human or professional support when you need it.
Build a small prayer routine
Connect prayer to an existing moment, such as after breakfast. Begin with a short period and adjust it to your day. Reminders are optional supports. Lumefide offers prayer moments within lessons, personal goals and a quiet focus session; Live Activities require Plus. A learning streak does not measure your faith or the value of your prayer.
